In our high school AP classes, many well-prepared students chose not to register for AP exams, not because of grades or confidence, but because their families could not afford the fees. After a friend shared that he did not want to add to his parents’ financial burden, we realized this was not an individual problem but a systemic one in our district.
Working with our district’s AP Director, we learned that cost was discouraging students from both taking AP exams and, in some cases, enrolling in AP courses at all. Together, we built a funding process that helps cover AP exam fees so that financial barriers never stand between a motivated student and the opportunities those exams can unlock.
What began as a solution for one friend has grown into support for students across multiple schools and communities, expanding access to advanced coursework and college credit.
